Supplies For Adult Watercolor
This supply list will provide you with with the info you need when attending any of my weekly adult watercolor classes. Various class registrations may not include extra details about the materials or the best places to find them. Please review this info and let me know if you have any questions regarding your particular class or materials.
Important note on supplies: Ordering all your supplies from a large online art warehouse is considerably simpler and cheaper than Amazon or trying to go to local suppliers like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. Also, the selection at online art warehouses is nearly unlimited. Most all have free shipping after $35 as well. I personally use Blick or Jerry's Artarama. The links below are all for Blick, unless an item was better suited for Amazon

Paper: 9 x 12 Arches 140lb cold pressed pad
Watercolor Brushes:
NOTE: Quality brushes are very important to your success. Poor brushes make the work very difficult. These are my affordable recommendations for this class. If you already have brushes that you’re satisfied with, please bring those. You will need the rigger however, if you don’t already have one.

Paints: Professional Quality is recommended for best results and no frustration

Winsor & Newton Colors 5ml (W&N Cotman 8ml is okay to use as well):
Opera Pink
Dioxazine Purple
Ultramarine Blue
Cadmium Yellow
Winsor Orange
Winsor Red
Pthalo Blue
Palette: you need a very large mixing area for your palette. Please avoid a tiny palette, you will be miserable.

A Butcher’s Tray
John Pike Palette (this is the one I use)
Super cheap option, find large WHITE plastic serving treys that are not too flimsy
Other Supplies:
water container (at least quart sized)
roll of paper towels, or an old cloth towel
masking tape
pencil
Glad® Cling Wrap (Saran® wrap doesn’t perform as well for the technique we’ll use)
Kosher Salt
Cheese Cloth
8 oz spray bottle (usually in hair/beauty aisle)
