Jill Williams Fine Artist • Pursuing Nature's Voice
Jill Williams is a contemporary abstract watercolorist pursuing nature's voice in luminous landscape images. Using a blend of abstract and representational styles, Jill employs landscapes, skyscapes, water, animals, birds or figures to embody her response to nature’s voice and influence. She uses simplistic, limited color palettes to create a quiet, peaceful, and sometimes pensive mood.
For Jill, the experiences of rural living, and subsequent observation and discovery of nature began in childhood. Her enduring fascination continues to shape the emotions of wonder that drive her creative process. The desired culmination is an image that will invite viewers to linger, reflect and experience a meaningful connection to nature’s voice.

Nature's voice is constantly speaking and urging me to acknowldedge the beautiful majesty of the natural world. My goal is always to listen and capture images that reflect that voice.” |
“Since childhood, I’ve always had a deep connection with nature, with trees, streams, fields and skies. For me nature has a distinct voice….not in a literal sense, but rather, a deep seated resonance... a voice heard inside my spirit. I hear it watching the miracle of a germinating seed, or feeling the magic of sunlight shimmering through tree tops, or even watching the delicate movements of foraging birds." Influenced EarlyJill grew up in the country, so as a child she spent much of her time outdoors…exploring! The woods and creeks were longtime companions and inspired her great love for nature. Her fondest memories are of discovering meadows, glades, trails, and creeks that she would imagine others had never seen before. It was magical. She is still compelled to visit those emotions in her work to produce images that capture those moments of childlike awe of her natural surroundings.

Discovery Through Images
Each painting is based on an emotional response to some natural event like reflections on water or sunlight through trees. These events have spiritual significance to me and I’m compelled to record them.
I started drawing around the age of 6, and though I didn’t understand it at the time, I came to know that if something deeply resonated with me, an urgency would rise up within me……sort of an awareness that an image needed to come out of me. It was an overwhelming sensation at the time, but has become as natural as breathing. I couldn’t articulate any of this as a child, but I knew I’d made a discovery about who I was at that young age and I've continued to operate this way throughout my artistic process over the years.

Living Creatively

Jill has been creating art for over 40 years and earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing, and BA in Art Education from the University of West Georgia, and has worked in a variety of creative fields since graduating college, including illustration, graphic design, mural painting, and as a stained glass artist.
Jill is also an art instructor, regularly hosting and leading classes and workshops for adults. Jill enjoys investing her skills into others while inspiring them to grow in their own creative gifts, regardless of where they are on their artistic journey. |

Jill lives and works in a house on a hill, in the woods of rural west Georgia with her husband, Jay, their two sons, and 5 hens. Her work is available through the Gallery, private studio appointment, and exhibition events.
